Jim is a former NHL Player with the Washington Capitals. He was signed by the Capitals in 1979 as an under-age defenseman and later signed with the Edmonton Oilers. He is currently an assistant coach with the Seattle Thunderbirds of the WHL, a position he also held between 1992-1997. Jim is in charge of the defensemen and during his first 5 seasons with the club, all but one was taken in the NHL draft.

Jim played with Moncton and with the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League where he won a Calder Cup. He also played with Montana and Wichita of the Central Hockey League and played for the Saskatoon Blades and Billings Bighorns in the Western Hockey League. Jim also played professionally in Europe for Peterborough of the BIHA where he was instrumental in spearheading England’s Youth Hockey Development Program.

Jim has been the Coach for Team Washington in both 2002 and 2003 that participated at the Chicago Showcase Tournament, a venue for the best Junior and Senior High School players in the country. In addition, he is currently the director for the Seattle Thunderbirds/HES Community Outreach Program. Jim serves as the lead instructor and primary managing partner for Hockey Educational Systems.
